Whilst researching the Past Presidents for the Centenary Book, we met with Lt Cdr Roden’s Granddaughter and her husband, Victoria and Fred Silvester. They had numerous photos and papers and also a log of his time in HMS Caronia, an armed merchant cruiser. This log covered the period August 1914 to May 1915 and was painstakingly transcribed by Fred Silvester. We thought this would make a great article for the Liverpool Nautical Research Society (LNRS) and Ted Scaplehorn has edited it and made it available on the LNRS website at https://liverpoolnauticalresearchsociety.org/. I am sure that you will find it a fascinating read and though not full of “derring do”, it gives a wonderful insight into life onboard at the start of WW1
